  1. The broken empire trilogy is what got me into fantasy. the Red queens war trilogy made Mark Lawrence one of my favorite authors so when I was browsing the bookstore and saw a copy of Red Sister i didn’t hesitate!

  2. Really enjoy Mark’s sense of humor and twisted world building. Red Sister was a bit of a departure from previous works, but no less welcome. Also, felt kind of bad for Mark having been run off (deciding) to leave a website’s Lit section he used to comment on so figured I should help support his poor ass and all them kids and cats and stuff! You go, girl.

  3. Well, I have picked up Red Sister because I have since before read all of Mark’s published books, two of which are signed by himself. So I am always excited to see new content by him, and that’s the real reason why I picked up Red Sister.

  4. A bad ass, odd little girl raised by nuns to be a mystical and deadly killing machine? Who could resist that blurb. Absolutely gripping, original and engrossing. Loved it.

  7. It was hard to top prince of fool’s series. But it did. It turned out to be my favorite of all your books which is crazy considering how much I liked all the other ones.

  8. Have read all Mark’s books -first on kindle -then worried that aliens would attack and destroy all electronic media- bought them all as real life books. If my favourite authors work so hard to produce good fiction so regularly, the least I can do is support them!

  9. The premise sounded amazing, the reviews were universally fantastic – still haven’t seen a bad one yet – and I had been itching to read some of Mark’s previous series. I thought this one sounded like a good place to start – especially as it’s a fantasy with a female lead

  12. I bought Red Sister since I’ve loved everything Mark has written so far – I know it’s going to be awesome… but I haven’t read it yet (I’ve been hurt before). I thought I might start once Grey Sister is out and in my hands, since I know the final book is out in 2019.

  13. I bought red sister after finishing Mark Lawrence’s broken Empire and if anything it was a better read than the broken Empire. Definitely in my top 5 books of all time and I’m sure I will be rereading thisfor years to come.

  17. It wasn’t so much a choice to pick it up as a necessity. Prince of Thorns got me through a particularly stressful time and I’ve been a fan of his prose ever since. When Red Sister came out I buddy read it with a friend and now we’re already planning our reread before Grey comes out!

  18. I didn’t plan to pick it up, as in didn’t much like price of thorns. But 5 people messaged me just how awesome and different red sister was, so I gave it a try anyway. And feel utterly and completely in love!

  19. Really? You had to ask why I picked up ‘Red Sister’? It says Mark Lawrence right there on the cover. I’d read a prep school romance if he wrote it.

  20. I picked up prince of thorns back in the summer of 2011 and followed the adventures of Jorg, in 2014 I began to follow the adventures of Jalan. Both amazing characters in their own ways and different from each other. As a massive fan of Mark’s work I was over the moon to hear about Red Sister. Assassin nuns?! Hell yes! Regardless I would of picked up this book anyway but the draw of such a force of femininity was exactly what I had been craving. I would be over joyed to receive a signed copy of Grey Sister, it would keep my signed copy of Red Sister company!

  23. When an author is good, I mean really good, your radar turns on and you will read anything that the author produces. You could have announced a cereal box cover and I would have pre-ordered on Amazon.

  24. I read The Red Sister because I adore the complex and interesting world Mark Lawrence created in The Broken Empire series. Meeting Jalan Kendeth in The Red Queen’s War made me enjoy Lawrence’s ability to fully develop a character. I wanted to see what he could do in terms of a lead female role. Could he be as consistent, and appropriately darkly humored with a lady? Turns out he can, and now i am excited to follow up The Red Sister with the Grey.

  29. I read Red Sister as I read all of Mark’s books. Always fun, engaging, full of action and deep characters. With my limited amount of free time (3 yr old triplets), it’s a great escape when I have the opportunity.

  35. I read RED SISTER because:

    a. Mark Lawrence said I could never eat pie again if I didn’t read it.
    b. I thought it was about a Communist nun.
    c. I’m an only child with a fascination for aliens and was intrigued by a story about having a sister from Mars.
    d. Anything written by Mark Lawrence is liable to be awesome.

One of these answers is true.

  40. I discovered Red Sister by way of the Amazon “Customers who bought this item also bought” . . .On it’s surface sounded like much needed counter programming in a testosterone driven industry. I was in the mood to read a series that centered women characters in an all female environment.

Besides, Lawrence rocks, and honestly he hasn’t written anything I’ve felt was meh.

  45. I heard about Red Sister at some cons I was at over the summer and picked it up. I thought it might work with my PhD thesis topic (Gods in contemp fantasy) and it also had me hooked from the first sentence. I sat down and read it in two sittings, just couldn’t stop. Nona Grey might be one of the best actualized female heroines coming of age I’ve read for a while, loved the friendship dynamics, learning set up, and the dangerous weave of church/state politics in the common life.

It basically compared it to marks other series, brents night angel series, the mist born books and some others, all of which I enjoyed so I noted to myself to get it when it comes out, but only finally picked it up just before xmas. I got half way through over the course of a week then spent a sat night reading the rest, finally finishing at 5am Sunday morning… Instantly tweeting at mark about it before finally sleeping =)

  50. Well, Mark has written two really different, but also really controversial main characters. And know you are giving us a female version? A badass, maybe merciless girl who is also trained by nuns???

Yeah, and the world also seems interesting enough… WITH MAGIC NUNS!!!
